The workshop aims to make students deal directly with some of the theses of one of the most important legal philosophers of the twentieth century: H. L. A. Hart. Students will be required to read and analyze parts of some of his most significant writings. Attention will be focused on excerpts from “The Concept of Law” and from his “Essays in Jurisprudence and Philosophy”.
Reference texts
Texts will be communicated by the teacher.
Learning objectives
The workshop aims to allow students to gain a better understanding of some of the main theses of H. L. A. Hart.
Prerequisites
It is recommended that participants in the workshop have a basic knowledge of philosophy of law.
Teaching methods
After an introductory overview provided by the teacher, students will be required to read and discuss some passages from the main Hartian works.
Methods of verifying learning
There is no final exam. The proficiency acquired by students will be ascertained during the workshop, for all of them will be required to participate in the workshop’s activities.
